A tragic event occurred in Tokalavaripalem, a village in Guntur which is home to a Dalit (untouchable) community within SFIRD's operational area. Five elderly residents — two women and three men — succumbed to heat strokes over a two-week period. This heartbreaking loss highlights the susceptibility of marginalized communities to climate-related disasters which is exacerbated by the lack of accessible drinking water.
SFIRD is working tirelessly to mitigate the effects of the heatwave. Water delivery was also arranged so that safe and purified drinking water would be accessible on regular basis, as part of the "Access to Water" program — a crucial intervention to prevent further casualties. SFIRD also provided handouts on "Do's and Don'ts" to advise people how to keep themselves safe and protect themselves from the unrelenting heat.
SFIRD's Seasonal Work Site Schools for children will continue to operate, providing a safe haven and essential support to families affected.
Meanwhile at the Yenadi Sangham, this week marks the 4th delivery of 4000 liters of water for the 140 people that are at the Dumping Yard area. The weekly water delivery is making an impact on the families at the Yenadi Sangham.

Due to the reliable supply of clean water and the education brought about by the Mother and Childcare Centre (MCC), children are now able to take baths and maintain a certain level of personal hygiene. Much more than this, they have access to safe, clean and reliable drinking water.
Also on April 20, 2025, SFIRD distributed food to the people at the Yenadi Sangham, along with some other basic necessities.

As we conclude this blog report, I’d like to leave you with a couple of images of adults and children who are thankful for a safe, drinkable cup of water, particularly during these hot months. It's nearly unbelievable to consider that, even in today's world, people lack access to freshwater and basic nutrition.

The things we take for granted, someone else is praying for.
