First Water Delivery to the Yenadis at the Yenadi Sangham in 2026

Throughout Andhra Pradesh, people are preparing for an intense summer. Several regions have already recorded temperatures exceeding 100°F with more severe heatwaves on the horizon. This presents a significant risk to vulnerable groups, such as the Yenadis at Yenadi Sangham.

Following the launch of the "Access to Water" program last summer, particularly after the tragic death of 5 elderly Yenadis from a shortage of clean drinking water, RH and SFIRD began delivering 4000 liters of clean water every 10 days. The water truck visited each tent in the encampment to provide water. This year, the first delivery arrived April 8, 2026.

Accessibility to potable water has made a positive impact. The following observations were noted from last year's efforts:

  • drastic health improvements — access to clean water prevents not only diarrheal diseases, but acute respiratory infections and numerous neglected tropical diseases

  • improved hygiene and sanitation — able to wash dishes, clothes, and themselves

  • improved education — children are able to attend MCCC and school more regularly

  • access to clean water readily can prevent violence and abuse against women — a readily available water source prevents women from making perilous journeys

It would be our hope that, over time, this will change the direction of each individual's life trajectory.

We forget that the water cycle and the life cycle are one. Jacques Cousteau
