PHASE 1: First 25 pumps provide water to 2000 families

Updated: 6 days ago

Above, in the slide show, are the images of the pumps installed in location.

My late grandfather, or "Thatha" as we call him, used to say, "Many drops of water make a mighty ocean." The smallest efforts, no matter how insurmountable the obstacle may be, will eventually contribute to great change. This is our hope with Black Molly's Hydro Revival — a project focused on addressing the impact of water scarcity among at-risk communities. We are proud to announce that Phase 1 of this project has been completed. Working with SFIRD, who determined the locations in need and coordinated the drilling and installation efforts, 25 pumps were successfully installed at several locations in the coastal region of Andhra Pradesh.

This project was a race against time. We are on the cusp of India's hottest season, with Andhra Pradesh experiencing and expecting intense heatwaves. Installing these pumps before the heatwaves was imperative and the weather was not inclined to wait. But thanks to the support of our donors and the tireless work from SFIRD, we successfully managed to install these pumps just as the heatwaves began to strike.

The 25 pumps were installed in schools, villages, churches — places that provided safe access for communities at risk. With these pumps, children won't need to choose between education and water; women won't need to choose between work and water. We've not conquered water scarcity globally; in fact we haven't even conquered it locally. However, these pumps have made an impact in the lives of more than 270 school children, and 2000+ families — many drops of water make a mighty ocean!

What we see here is just Phase 1 of this project. In the next phase, we plan to implement 60 more pumps and new wells in the Andhra Pradesh coastal region. Little by little we hope to alleviate the impact of water scarcity among those who are most affected by it. As we strive towards this, we thank you for your efforts and contributions and look forward to all that we will be able to accomplish together.

With access to water, we hope to see less deaths as a direct result of water scarcity.

Would you please consider partnering with RH to provide the funds needed for the rest of the 60 pumps:

  • 60 bore wells for hand pumps; $220.00 (INR ₹20,000 – as of February 2, 2026) per bore per pump

  • 20 newly bored open wells; $400.00 (INR ₹ 36400 – as of February 2, 2026) per well

These costs include actual boring and construction costs, permits, hardware, installation and labor. All costs stated above are in USD.

As previously discussed, eradicating water scarcity entirely isn't possible. However, we can begin by giving water to individuals, families, and villages. With every well and pump, we aim to meet this fundamental human need — water to live, and as Audrey Hepburn said:

Water is life, and clean water means health. — Audrey Hepburn

Thank you for being a part of this inspiring journey!
