On July 26 2024, a significant event unfolded in the town of Naidupet as Restoration Humanity and SFIRD collaborated to organize a pioneering Medical & Health Camp specifically tailored for the Yenadis of the Yenadi Sangham. The camp aimed to bridge the healthcare gap and provide vital medical services to the underserved community in the area.

The camp was held at a shelter that was built for the Yenadis by the Jindal Urban Waste Management.

A Glimpse into the Camp Experience

A total of 70 Yenadis enthusiastically participated in the camp. Upon arrival, each individual was greeted by a team of dedicated healthcare professionals ready to address their medical needs. The atmosphere buzzed with warmth and compassion, reflecting the essence of community service and care.

There were two general practitioners, an OB-GYN, and a dentist along with two nurses present. Many people reported heath issues related to diet or nutrition, such as digestive issues. Many others had injuries from working in the trash piles, with cuts and infection on their hands and feet; others had intense rash and skin conditions. As each person lined up, their needs were recorded and they were sent to the appropriate doctor to receive attention. The information collected gives us a better understanding about the medical needs present in the community and will help guide future plans to provide more direct and long-term medical care.

The Heartwarming Impact

The impact of the Medical & Health Camp rippled through the Yenadi community, leaving a trail of positivity and gratitude. From basic health check-ups to specialized consultations, every individual was given personalized attention and care, fostering a sense of trust and support between the community and the NGOs represented, which is important for a sustained work in the area.

Empowering Through Education

Beyond medical assistance, the camp also prioritized health education and awareness. Interactive sessions on hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention were conducted to equip the Yenadis with valuable knowledge to enhance their well-being. Empowering individuals through education is a cornerstone of sustainable healthcare practices, and this camp epitomized that philosophy.
