Water is the engine of all nature. — Leonardo da Vinci
Last year, we at Restoration Humanity embarked on a journey with SFIRD to help alleviate the burden of water scarcity on affected groups in the Bapatla region. This began the Black Molly Project, a project that aims to open new wells and repair existing ones to promote access to safe drinking water. We are pleased to announce that the first well of 80 has been bored and erected.

▲ The pump will be used to provide water for children from grades one to five.

▲ School children use the manually operated pump to access water.
The well is located within a Bapatla coastal area fishing village on the premises of a primary school that serves approximately 120 children between the ages of six and eleven. The previously installed pump installed that fell into disrepair so teachers and school staff informed SFIRD about the difficulties they faced in accessing water. To resolve this problem, the pump was installed on December 20th, 2025.
Surrounding the pump is a catchment which drains to a soakage pit. This is intended to drain any overflow to a safe location that prevents stagnation and possible diseases.
The impact of water scarcity is far reaching, afflicting countless people across the world. However, little by little we can make a difference. This pump will allow more than 100 children to attend school without worrying about where their next drink will come from or the need to travel far and wide to draw water from a safe well.
We would like to thank Ravi-Garu and the rest of SFIRD for their tireless efforts for these communities in need and facilitating the work on the ground. Without them, none of this would be possible.
We would like to thank you for your support and contribution towards Black Molly's Hydro Revival. With your help, we hope to erect many more bore pumps across the Bapatla and Guntur area to secure access to water for those who need it most.
RH along with SFIRD, will be supplying necessary drinking water sources to keep the target groups healthy and hopefully less prone to water-borne diseases. Currently we have the funds for 25 pumps, we need your help and support for the rest of the 55 pumps and wells.
80 bore wells for hand pumps; $220.00 (INR ₹20,000 – as of February 2, 2026) per bore per pump
20 newly bored open wells; $400.00 (INR ₹ 36400 – as of February 2, 2026) per well
These costs include actual boring and construction costs, permits, hardware, installation and labor. All costs stated above are in USD.
As we've talked about it before, we will not be able to eradicate water scarcity, but we could at least, save one family, and/or one village from losing their loved ones from heat stroke and dehydration; simply because of a very basic need for humanity — water.
When the well is dry, we know the worth of water. — Benjamin Franklin
