Celebration in the Camp

ree

On October 31, the Naidupet Dumping Yard turned festive as the Yenadi celebrated Diwali with firecrackers, lights, and sweets provided by Restoration Humanity (RH) and Society For Integrated Rural Development (SFIRD).

Bags of "safe and sane" firecrackers, amongst other goodies, were distributed to the 63 Yenadi kids at Naidupet.

What a treat – laddoos never fail to put a smile on anyone's face!

In the afternoon, the Yenadis started the celebration with laddoo (a popular Indian sweet) and firecrackers. SFIRD instructed them on safe practices regarding firecrackers. The celebration found its culmination after dark when the light of the firecrackers would shine the brightest.

The evening is illuminated with joy and festivity by the brightness of the fireworks.

Though challenges surround the Yenadis of Naidupet, their jubilance was not hindered. Perhaps there is something to learn from the Yenadis. Though their possessions are few, their joy and gratitude is evidently great. As we look to the future, we hope that the Yenadis will have more occasions for celebration.

“The aim of life is appreciation; there is no sense in not appreciating things; and there is no sense in having more of them if you have less appreciation of them.”— G. K. Chesterton
